Jason Durant Receives MPA Principal's Award

MILO - - Jason Durant of Brownville, a senior at Penquis Valley High School, has been selected to receive the 2013 Principal’s Award, Matt Hackett announced today. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principal’s Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement, leadership and citizenship.
Jason is a well-respected student and a positive role model at Penquis Valley. He is in the top 10% of his class academically. Jason has participated in Student Council, Class President, Decker Award recipient, American Legion Oratorical Contest winner, and is an Honor Roll student. Jason is also a 4-year team member in track, soccer and basketball. He has been named PVC honorable mention plus PVC All-Academic teams in both soccer and basketball. Jason is a starting forward this year on the Eastern Maine Class C Championship basketball team and the State Class C Championship Boys Team. Jason has worked for 4 seasons for the Brownville Recreation Department.
Jason is the son of Donald & Debbie Durant of Brownville. Jason plans to attend the University of Maine, Orono, majoring in Forestry.
The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard Tyler. Mr. McGowan and Mr. Tyler were former principals and executive directors of the Maine Principal Association.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 130 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
