Letter to TRC
May 28, 2012 - TRC
The Davita Dialysis Corporation, a Fortune 500 For Profit company, is in the process of getting a Certificate of Need (CON) with the State of Maine. They plan to purchase all of Eastern Maine Medical Center's dialysis services including the one at your community's Hospital (or in your dialysis service area).
I am a patient safety activist and have worked on issues nationwide. I went to the CON hearing yesterday to make a statement. Contacts with powerful activists across the country have given me very disturbing information about DaVita. Maine does not need Davita. We already have a fine dialysis service through EMMC.
I can provide video, and my statement from the hearing yesterday. I also have a letter from a patient (one of many) who was tormented and permanently harmed by a Davita Clinic in another state. I am working very hard to give patients a voice. Dialysis patients are a captive patient population because they must have their treatments to live. The have no choice in that, nor do they have choices about where to get their treatment here in Maine.
Please call if you would like more information about Davita or the CON process.
