Bangor Hydro Has Record United Way Campaign

December 15, 2011 - TRC - By Susan Faloon

Bangor Hydro Electric Company delivered more than $112,000 in checks and pledges to United Way of Eastern Maine as part of its 2011 campaign, nearly $16,000 more than last year’s campaign. The money was raised through employee pledges, fundraising activities, and a 100 percent corporate match. About 50 percent of employees contributed to this campaign through pledges.

“I’m very proud to work with so many caring employees,” said Bangor Hydro President and Chief Operating Officer Gerry Chasse. “It never fails, whenever someone is in need Bangor Hydro employees always step up and give generously of their time and money.”

Fundraising events included a blueberry cook-off, online auction, dress down days, and a week-off raffle. Bangor Hydro employees also participated in a United Way day of volunteering renovating the Big Brothers Big Sisters office at the Bangor Y.

“Employees really come together for this campaign,” said Communications Officer and UWEM Board member Susan Faloon. “Whether it’s through donations, volunteering, organizing fundraising events, or making food for the cook-off nearly everyone plays a role.”

“Because of cuts in both federal and state funding to health and human service agencies, many of our funded partners are facing very difficult times,” said John Kuropchak, President and CEO of United Way of Eastern Maine. “Through the generous donations of the Bangor Hydro and its employees, we will be able to assist them in providing vital services to those in need in our community. From the volunteers, the partner programs, and staff of the United Way, THANK YOU to the employees and management at Bangor Hydro!”

Bangor Hydro has raised money for United Way of Eastern Maine for more than 50 years and is consistently one of the top overall campaigns.
