Central Maine Brain Injury Support Group
May 05, 2011 - TRC - By Patricia Nutter, CTRS
Brain Injury is a reality for about 10,000 Mainers each year. The Bangor/Brewer community is excited to offer a new Brain Injury and Stroke Support group. Those who have lived with a Brain Injury know the scarcity of resources in Maine in recent years and we hope this group and our connections to the Brain Injury Information Network (BIIN) will help bridge this gap. This group is open to the public and is sponsored by MCIR, Alpha One, and Brewer Rehab & Living Center. Survivors and families are invited to join a supportive and educational environment to offer others encouragement and information as well as learn from the group and speakers. The gathering is held at Maine Center for Integrated Rehab (MCIR) Twin City Plaza on Wilson St. in Brewer from 4:30 - 5:30pm once a month. The meetings will generally be the 3rd Monday of each month. Possible topics for future meetings include: Transitions from different levels of care, Baclofen pumps, recreation and social opportunities, community resources, and self advocacy. The group is driven by the needs and interests of its members so topics and schedules may change. For more information on the support group contact MCIR at 989-2034.
