Full Scholarship Awarded to Penquis Senior

ATKINSON, Jan. 13 – Sadie Zambrano, a senior at Penquis Valley High School and upcoming valedictorian of the Class of 2011, has been awarded a full scholarship to Elmira College. The school’s highest distinction, the Valedictorian Scholarship, is valued at more than $130,000 over four years.

Admission to Elmira College and the Valedictorian Scholarship were based on Sadie Zambrano’s academic performance. She becomes one of only a few individuals to be selected to receive the Elmira College’s Valedictorian Scholarship each year.

In addition to being elected president of the Class of 2011 and president of the National Honor Society at Penquis Valley High School, Sadie Zambrano maintains a current weighted grade point average (GPA) of 97.87.

Located in Elmira, New York, Elmira College has consistently been rated as one of the nation’s top small colleges by U.S. News and World Report, USA Today, Barron’s Best Buys and Money Magazine.

Majoring in nursing and law, Sadie Zambrano also hopes to play soccer at Elmira College. Playing soccer at Penquis Valley High School, she was selected for Honorable Mention All-PVC Varsity Soccer 2007 as a freshman, then for the Second Team All-PVC Varsity Soccer as a sophomore, then for First Team All-PVC Varsity Soccer her junior and senior year. She was chosen for the 2010 State Senior All-Star Team, a distinction given only to approximately 50 female soccer players throughout Maine each year.

Sadie Zambrano lives in Atkinson with proud parents Anthony and Michelle Zambrano and brother Noah.
