Re: Our Rec DirectorAugust 09, 2010 - TRC - By IzzyChief Williams, let us know how we can help.Richard Martin is exactly who is needed in Milo as our Recreation Director. We could not possibly hire anyone more dedicated, energetic, enthusiastic, conscientious, intelligent, sensitive, forward thinking and just plain old hard-working. I hope he can be persuaded to stay at work at the head of our Recreation Department. Years ago it became evident to me that work done by Murrel Harris brought community people together and developed the spirit of cooperation and volunteerism that is vital to communities. In the time that Richard has been Milo’s Recreation Director he has built on the work of Murrel (and John) and brought new life and energy to Milo’s Recreation activities. The well attended Mud Run and related events are a hard to miss example of the result of Richards work and his ability to work with other entities to make something special happen. Some of us on the sidelines are feeling as though Richard deserves more than pats on the back. What he doesn’t deserve is to be maligned and otherwise misused. I understand that something of this sort has happened. Chief Williams wrote about “parents who can’t see past their own competitiveness” who apparently have tried to make a problem for Richard in some way. Such an action is beyond self-serving. It is a destructiveness that needs to be stopped dead in its tracks. Allowing bullies to win is no example to set for our youth. Accepting someone else’s judgment of who or what we are, or did, isn’t any way to go either. Capitulating to another keeps them from knowing they were wrong. Richard, I am only one of the many, many people in Milo who hope you will remain as Milo’s Recreation Director.NOTE - This article reflects the views of the author and not necessarily those of the TRC Alliance Team.
