July 30, 2010 - TRC
There are many ways to support this effort. Community groups could volunteer their time or discuss hosting a fundraiser for supplies by contacting Deb Somers at 564-7116 ext. 2475 or email@example.com. Businesses can help by becoming an Official Sponsor, or having a drop box location to collect donated supplies. Businesses can also assist by using bulk purchasing power to purchase supplies or make a monetary donation to the project. Businesses should contact James Macomber at 564-7116 ext. 2476 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Individuals may donate new school supplies or starter packs and deliver them by July 31 to the Penquis office at 50 North Street, Dover-Foxcroft. Penquis will be participating in the Dover-Foxcroft Shiretown Homecoming Parade on August 7. Parade watchers wishing to contribute to this effort can bring donated school supplies to the Parade and deliver them to the Smart Starts for Students bus parked along the parade route.
The registration period for families is June 1 - July 31. Parents who have students that attend school in MSAD #4, #41, #46, #68 or Union #60, may register online at www.penquis.org then select the Smart Starts for Students link or contact Sheree Brown at Penquis, 50 North Street, Dover-Foxcroft at 564-7116 or email@example.com.
Deb Somers, Regional Manager, for Penquis, noted that several families have already registered for assistance. She anticipates a greater demand this year as local families continue to struggle in this difficult economy. "These are challenging times for many families, but working together as a community, we can ensure that children in the Piscataquis area get a Smart Start to their 2010-2011 school year", states Somers. For more details on how to contribute, visit www.penquis.org and select the Smart Starts for Students link.
