Augusta: Photography Contest !

Whether photography is your passion, your hobby, or just an occasional pastime, we invite you to participate in our photo contest, celebrating the beauty and unique character of St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta, 9 Summer Street Augusta, Maine.

The winning photo will be reproduced onto greeting cards to be sold to parishioners and the general public year round as well as at our holiday fair. Both amateur and professional photographers are welcome to participate. Photos must be submitted in digital format; see contest rules for details. Entries for the contest must be received by Friday, February 28, 2010, at 11:59 p.m. EDST.

Official Contest Rules

No purchase or payment necessary to enter or win. To enter, you must be 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident (green card). All photos must be in color. The photo subject must be of St. Markís Episcopal Church, 9 Summer Street, Augusta, Maine. Entries must be digital images. Black and white images are not eligible. Please read the specific guidelines for submitting digital images. Entries must be submitted by the original photographer. Do not submit a photo taken by someone other than you. You must be the sole owner of the copyright of any image submitted. Your submission of the photo and entry form is your guarantee that you are the author and copyright holder of the photo. Images should be formatted to 72 dpi, no larger than 600 by 450 pixels and no smaller than 450 by 338 pixels. Images should be submitted in JPG (at high quality) or TIFF format. File sizes must be less than 500K per image. Images must be in natural color. Black and white, sepia tone, and duotone images are not eligible. Digital images will not be returned. An individual may submit no more than 6 photos.

Ownership/Use Rights

Photographers retain the copyright to their photographs. By entering the contest, photographers agree to have their submitted photos published on St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta greeting cards and any other printed matter without any fee or other form of compensation, and agree that St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta may display photos on its website, and may make and retain copies of all submitted photos for archival purposes. All photos will be credited to the photographer named in the entry form. Entries (including non-winning entries) may be selected for display or use in other St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta (http://www.stmarksaugusta.org) web pages, with permission from the photographer. Entrants agree that St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta may contact them to obtain permission for use of photos in this way. In the event that ownership of any photograph submitted to St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta is contested in any manner, St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta retains the discretion to disqualify that photograph and discontinue use of the photograph.

How to Enter

Digital photos must be submitted by emailing them to tmann@fairpoint.net. Each entry must include in the subject line: St. Markís Photo Contest. In the body of the email, please include name of photographer, mailing address, phone number, email address and age of photographer and date photograph was taken.


Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, photographic quality, and effectiveness in conveying the beauty and/or unique character of St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta. A panel of judges from St. Mark's Church-Augusta will judge the entries and all contest decisions are final. Entries that fail to comply with the Official Contest Rules will be disqualified.


Judges will select a first, second and third place winning photos. St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta may choose to name only a first place winner. In addition, one or more honorable mention winners may be selected. Winners will be notified approximately 2-3 weeks after the contest deadline by phone and email using the information submitted via email. Along with a winner notification, winner(s) will be sent an affidavit of eligibility and release. The winner(s) must execute, without making changes, and return this release for receipt by St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta within 7 days of the date on the winner notification letter. Failure to execute and return this affidavit within 7 days will result in disqualification. Winning photographs, along with the photographer's name, email address (optional) and information about the photo will be displayed on the St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta website. No financial compensation is provided to winners.

Additional Terms and Conditions

St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta is not responsible for computer system, hardware, software, or program malfunctions or other errors, failures, or delayed computer transactions or network connections that are human or technical in nature. Furthermore, St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta is not responsible for: (i) lost, misdirected, misplaced, illegible, unintelligible, incomplete, or late entries or (ii) any act, failure to act, or delay regarding the transmitting or processing of entries. St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend all or any portion of this contest without notice if factors beyond St. Mark's Episcopal Church's control, including technical difficulties, disrupt or corrupt the fair or secure administration or operation of the contest. Void where prohibited. St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta is entitled to interpret these rules as needed and its decisions are final. St Markís Episcopal Church-Augusta reserves the right to disqualify any entrant that St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta has reason to believe is not the original work of entrant, or does not otherwise meet the contest rules. If a winner is disqualified or determined to be ineligible, alternate winner(s) will be selected using the same judging process/criteria described above. Alternate winner(s) are subject to all requirements set forth in these Official Rules.

By participating in the contest, you agree to release and hold harmless St. Mark's Episcopal Church-Augusta and its employees, officers, affiliates, agents, and advertising and promotional agencies from any and all damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind resulting from your participation in this contest, including infringement of intellectual property rights. St. Markís Episcopal Church-Augusta and its employees, officers, affiliates, agents, and advertising and promotional agencies assume no responsibility or liability for any damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind arising in whole or in part from this contest.
