The Three Rivers Kiwanis project for last year was to paint the downstairs of the Milo Library.  The painting got started this February after all the windows were installed.  This project is in process and looking very good with a new color scheme.  Aren’t we lucky!  We are also doing some reorganizing to make the space more ‘user friendly’.

A Nook or e-book reader was recently donated to us and can be checked out to use for our download library selections.

Kathy’s pick is ‘Have you ever felt neglected, lonely, less than useful?  These old gems need a visit!  Care to try one?’  This book display features a great variety of older books and authors that needed to be put in the forefront again.

We have many donated puzzles (500 to 1,000 pieces), DVD’s, VHS movies and books on CD’s.  They can be checked out just like a book.

Ongoing Book Sale – There have been many more books added to our books for sale.  Paperbacks are 10 cents and hardbacks are 25 cents each or five for a dollar.  Who can beat that price?  We also have a selection of books for sale by the carton.

NOW – for some of the New Books that have arrived:

James Patterson                  NYPD Red 4

We at the Milo Library are the lucky recipient of a Stephen King Grant in the amount of $30,000 received in August.  Cathy Knox, one of our library board members, volunteered for the task of filling out and submitting the required paperwork.  It is quite a lengthy and involved process to apply for a grant in any amount.  We really appreciate all the hard work she invested in applying for this grant.  We thank Stephen King as well for his generosity.  This money is designated for putting in all new energy efficient windows throughout our library which is scheduled for November

We had a successful five week summer reading program.  Thirty-nine children signed up and participated.  The number of books read between independent and family readers totaled 751 books.  We had a fun party downstairs in the library on the last Friday of the program with balloons, drawings, drinks and Elaine’s Bakery goodies.  Congratulations to all the children who participated.  The message from us is to keep on reading! We wish to thank the weekly Wednesday afternoon readers (the kids loved it). Also, thank you Maine Community Foundation for the grant to purchase books for the program.
