|NEWCASTLE - Malcolm E. "Mac" Blanchard, 77, died suddenly at Sebec Lake on August 11, 2012. He was born August 19, 1934, in Milo, the son of Everett S. Blanchard|
and Ida (Downs) Blanchard. He graduated from Foxcroft
Academy in Dover-Foxcroft in 1953, where he was
president of his senior class. In 1957 he graduated from
Colby College with a degree in Business Administration.
After college he worked briefly for GE in Boston, then
returned to Maine where he worked for Oakhurst Dairy. In
1959 he married Dorothy (Anderson). The Blanchards then
moved to Newcastle, where Mac purchased Round Top
Dairy. He ran the Dairy from 1960-1968. Following the
sale of Round Top Dairy, he became the manager of the
Damariscotta branch of the Bath Savings Institution. Mac
was active in the community as a member of the Rotary
Club, Newcastle Finance Committee, and Congregational
Church. He also was a member of the Great Salt Bay
School Committee for several years. Mac then started his
own business, MEB Professional Real Estate Services,
building over forty houses and various other professional
buildings in the Damariscotta area. He spent many years
working as a real estate and construction appraiser in the
Mid-Coast area. He was elected to the Board of Directors
at The First National Bank of Damariscotta in 1976 and
served on the board for 29 years.
Mac was an avid reader. He loved refinishing furniture,
working outside, and spending time with his family. He
had a love for the Maine outdoors. He enjoyed hiking,
hunting, and especially fly fishing with the Bent Rod Club.
Though he enjoyed traveling across Canada and the United
States with his wife Dot, his favorite place was the camp at
Sebec Lake. He took pride in having built a camp that his
family could enjoy for years to come. He was an active
father and grandfather who enjoyed passing on his love of
the outdoors to the next generation.
