Marion C. Shuman, beloved wife of the late Hoyt Shuman, died peacefully Oct. 1, 2008, with her family by her side at home. She was born May 23, 1921, in Rockland, the daughter of Bessie and Alfred Church. She graduated from Rockland High School and married the love of her life, Hoyt, in 1939. She and her husband had 67 joyous years together. They loved dancing, playing bridge and associating with their many friends. They enjoyed traveling and going to Myrtle Beach after Marion retired from the University of Maine, where she worked for 23 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hoyt; parents; brother, Malcom; and two sisters, Evelyn and Clara.
She is survived by two loving and wonderful daughters, Carol Knight and husband, Bill, of Bangor and Elaine Tardiff of Milo; two loving and beautiful granddaughters, Capt. Joline Tardiff of Bangor and Michelle Melanson and son, Kyler, of Ottawa, Canada; adopted sister, Sandra Simmons of Waldoboro; several nieces and nephews. Marion was fortunate to have special friends, Bunny, Opal, Maddie, Ann, Jeanette and especially Ed in her life.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at Old Town Methodist Church, with a reception afterward at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
