MILO - A spacious and bright new facility for Milo Family Practice, the first building constructed in the Eastern Piscataquis Industrial Park, opened Tuesday to the public.

"To say this is a dream come true is an understatement," Dr. Kathleen Thibault told a large group of residents and dignitaries on Tuesday, including U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud.Thibault, who serves with Dr. Gretchen Huot at Milo Family Practice, an offshoot of Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, thanked the towns of Milo and Brownville for their donation of land in the park for the new facility. She said she looked forward to watching the industrial park grow along with the economy.Toward that end, Collins announced the park would receive $550,000 in federal funds to help support its expansion. This is in addition to the $400,000 in federal funds earmarked for a turning lane and traffic improvements to the park. Collins said the new medical facility bodes well for the communities and for the park's future.

Michaud thanked Mayo Hospital officials for their vision in the project. "It was a risk the board took but one I don't think you'll ever regret," he said. "This is a new beginning.""This is a great day for Mayo Hospital and our physician's practices," Ralph Gabarro, chief executive officer at Mayo Regional Hospital, said. He said the new building was a tremendous effort on the part of a lot of individuals and organizations.Built by the Sheridan Corp., the facility is similar to the Bingham Health Center, which also was constructed by the corporation. The new medical center will open officially for patients in mid-December.

Maine Island Cottages currently leases space at EPIP. The business is relatively new to Milo, but brings over twenty-five years of experience to the cottages it fabricates and erects. Cottages are built year round and installed spring through fall. Production is limited to ensure quality . Please see the company website for Maine Island Cottages for more details.
