News from the Brownville PD: EBAY HACKED! ~ USERS PLEASE CHANGE PASSWORDS!
eBay Inc. announced this morning that it has sustained a hacking attack that has compromised user information for “a large number of accounts” including emails, addresses and dates of birth. The eBay data base that was affected also includes physical addresses and phone numbers. The company discovered the breach two weeks ago but believes the hack occurred between late February and early March. So far, the company says it has not found any sign that financial or credit card information was compromised or that the attack involved PayPal. The company spokesperson indicated that they believe that a “large number of accounts” were involved. The company is working with law enforcement to investigate the hacking incident. eBAy said in a statement that the attack occurred through employee accounts that became compromised, allowing unauthorized access to eBay’s corporate network. According to an eBay spokesperson, “For the time being, we cannot comment on the specific number of accounts impacted. However, we believe there may be a large number of accounts involved and we are asking all eBay users to change their passwords."
